Necessary clarifications

  • Fear: Powerful and primitive human emotion that warns us of the presence of danger and that was essential to keep our ancestors alive.
  • Fear is divisible into two groups: biochemical and emotional. The biochemical response (the one that kept our ancestors alive) is universal, while the emotional response is individualized, something like a ‘personal matter’.
  • The large number of phobias detected with their corresponding name indicates that human beings are afraid of almost everything.
  • The fear of asymmetric things is called asymmetrophobia.
  • People who suffer from asymmetryphobia are generally methodical people, and when they realize that their environment or their work is not symmetrical, ordered or as they would have wanted or imagined it to be, they generally end up manifesting a series of fears that lead to an attack of panic.

Source

The causes of this phobia may be due to the combination of several external events, such as traumatic events, as well as internal predispositions, such as genetic inheritance.

Affectations

It can generate various problems both for the person who suffers from it and for those around them, since the person can be quite irritable when, for example:

  • … See the food arranged on your plate in an asymmetric way
  • … The ornaments on a table, shelf or others do not meet a symmetry parameter (identical type on each side, for example)

The irritation and anger that they express is a manifestation of the presence of the phobia, and this is generally not well understood by most people, which is why conflicts arise.
