World environment day

The World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 . It was created on the occasion of the Stockholm Conference, organized by the United Nations (UN) in 1972.

What is World Environment Day?

It is a very important day to encourage changes in attitudes and raise global awareness about the environment.

It is celebrated on June 5, around the world, through individual and collective initiatives in defense of the environment, in order to cause positive impacts on the planet.

Any attitude serves as a celebration: planting a tree, doing a task force to clean forests or beaches, promoting recycling campaigns, reusing objects creating new ones, bringing people together to rethink their attitudes, among many other things.

Environment Day at School and Society

There are schools and institutions that promote the Environment Week, where they hold workshops on recycling and reusing materials, science experiments, debates and presentations.

The Environment is a transversal theme that can and should be included in all disciplines and levels of education.

It is a great time to talk to children about responsible consumption attitudes, avoiding waste and maintaining healthy habits, remembering tips on how to save water, promoting a campaign to collect used oil or recyclable materials.

Associations of residents or collectives of people can take advantage of the day to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood, through awareness campaigns to prevent diseases such as dengue, properly taking care of garbage, among many others.

Why is there World Environment Day?

June 5 marks the date on which the United Nations Conference on the Environment took place in Stockholm in the capital of Sweden in 1972, which became known as the Stockholm Conference .

This event was the first to bring together representatives of governments and non-governmental institutions from more than 100 countries to discuss important environmental issues, such as acid rain, air pollution and the preservation of natural resources.

It was in the 1970s that interest in environmental issues began to grow and the concept of Sustainable Development emerged with great force.

It is just a day to rethink attitudes and create new habits that should be part of everyone’s daily life, because having a healthy environment is our right, taking care of the planet is also everyone’s duty.
