Tom Cruise ( New York State , July 3 , 1962 ) is an American film actor and producer. He has earned three Oscar nominations for best actor: in 1990 for Born on July 4 , in 1997 for Jerry Maguire and in 2000 for Magnolia .

Biographical synthesis


He was baptized with the name of Thomas Cruise Mapother the Fourth (IV). His father, Thomas Cruise Mapother the Third (III), was an Electronic Engineer, and his mother, Mary Lee, was a teacher, salesperson, and homemaker.

After several stays in different cities due to the father’s work chores, Tom and his three sisters finally settled in Ottawa , Canada .

In 1974 , his parents separated, when he was only 11 years old. After crossing the Canadian border, Mary settled with her children in Kentucky . Since then, Tom has assumed the reins of the family, taking care of the education of his sisters among other things.

Due to the constant change of schools, Tom suffered from academic adjustment, suffered from dyslexia and had difficulties with reading and writing. He managed to finish his primary studies, but because of his illness he had to abandon secondary studies.

Since he was little, he excelled in sports, mainly baseball . After leaving school, he decided to pursue professional wrestling , but a knee injury, after long training sessions in the gym, made him abandon this idea.

After these failures, Tom entered the Franciscan Monastery , with the aim of becoming a priest. They were fourteen months of meditation, where he woke up and gave birth to his artistic streak for acting. This pastoral career would come to an end when he decided to leave the Monastery, and give himself a period of ten years to finish his acting career.

He began his acting studies in New Jersey . He went to various casting and was working as a waiter and ice cream boy. Then he decided to travel to California , where he landed his first role in the film directed by Franco Zefirelli, Eternal Love . After this role, he returned to New Jersey, to the surprise of being chosen to act in the film Taps , which made him known for his secondary intervention.

In 1981 , she landed her first starring role in Risky Bussines by Paul Brickman , opposite Rebecca de Mornay . In this film, he caused the Mecca of Hollywood to notice him and that he became the idol of young adolescents.

In 1990 he achieved critical acclaim with Days of Thunder , the film where he debuted as a screenwriter alongside Robert Towne .

In 1992 , he played a military lawyer in A Matter of Honor , directed by Rob Reiner alongside Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore .

A new interpretation as a lawyer would be his next film, La tapadera , in 1993 . That same year, he made his directorial debut in a television episode Fallen Angels .

Then came the film Interview with the Vampire , along with Brad Pitt and Antonio Banderas . In this adaptation of Anna Rice’s book, she played the role of Lestat de Lioncourt. The movie was directed by Neil Jordan .

His next film was Mission Impossible, produced and starred by him.

In 1996 the movie Jerry Maguire was released , with Tom winning the Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar .

A new interpretation with his wife Nicole, would arrive in 1998 with Eyes Wide Shut , by the hand of director Stanley Kubrick , whose shooting suffered multiple incidents. It was rumored that the couple’s relationship was affected by this film and that this led to a well-known marital crisis and subsequent divorce in 2001.
